article imageFreedomWorks allegedly made video of Panda-Hillary Clinton sex

Mother Jones reports that former officials say an internal investigation of FreedomWorks, a conservative advocacy group, is ongoing. The investigation may include a video produced by the group showing a fake giant panda-Hillary Clinton oral sex scene.
Mother Jones reports the investigation focuses primarily on president Matt Kibbe's management of the organization and his use of resources.
After prolonged infighting, two members of the FreedomWorks' board of trustees, C. Boyden Gray, former White House counsel for President George H.W. Bush, and James Burnley IV, a secretary of transportation during the Reagan administration, notified Kibbe that they had received "allegations of wrongdoing by the organization or its employees" and had hired lawyers to investigate.
According to Mother Jones, a former FreedomWorks official said three lines of investigation emerged: A deal that awarded Kibbe the profits from a book whose production former officials of FreedomWorks say involved use of the organization's resources, although Kibbe claimed he wrote the book on his own independent of FreedomWorks.
The investigation also considered Kibbe's use of his expense account. Mother Jones reports a source said: "The question is whether Matt Kibbe used FreedomWorks resources and donor funds to live the high life."
The third line of investigation is a promotional video created for a conference, FreePAC, held on July 26, 2012, attended by thousands of conservative activists, and where tea party figures such as Glenn Beck and Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) gave speeches. According to Mother Jones, officials who saw the video that was to show on a large video screen said it included a segment that appears to be a dream sequence in which Brandon observes a giant panda on its knees with its head on the lap of Hillary Clinton in a seated position. The panda appeared to be performing oral sex on the then-secretary of state.
Mother Jones reports that two female interns at FreedomWorks were recruited to play Clinton and the panda. One of the interns wore a Hillary Clinton mask. The other wore a giant panda suit.
The video was screened for staff before the FreePAC event. However, many FreedomWorks staffers were shocked and outraged that Brandon could have been involved in the production of such a video. A former official reportedly said: "My mouth was wide open. 'What the hell is this?'"
Another former FreedomWorks official reportedly asked: "How was that not some form of sexual harassment?" He noted the fact that the two female interns had been made to act out a pretend sex scene. He said: "And there were going to be thousands of Christian conservatives at this thing. This was a terrible lack of judgment."
Mother Jones reports that Brandon defended the film, saying it was "creative and funny." But a decision was finally made not to show it.
An official said he was not aware of the film at the time. He said: "I heard (later) that they had made an obscene video mocking Hillary Clinton. I asked another [FreedomWorks] guy if he had seen it. He said, 'I heard about it. I was traveling at the time. It was shown around the office.'"
According to the official: "There was a concern that this kind of behavior could land you in court. I was shocked at the ugly and bad taste."
Mother Jones reports that Kibbe, Brandon, and Jackie Bodnar, director of communications for FreedomWorks, did not respond to requests for comments. An official who was asked to comment on the video, said: "I'm not comfortable being drawn into a dialogue with you about such allegations. I believe this is a situation in which a 'middleman' doesn't make sense. If those who say they have such information about such matters will communicate directly with me, I would be most appreciativeā€¦Of course, if the allegations are plausible, I will have to follow up appropriately."
Mother Jones reports that a former staffer said the investigation could spell doom for FreedomdWorks which has had a major influence in the political right. The officials said: "I think the whole thing will implode, and it will be destroyed out of mismanagement and hubris."
Mother Jones notes "The obscene scene in the video was likely based on a bizarre scene in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining."
