Fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner went to a sporting goods store in Torrance, a beach-side community in LA area on February 1, two days before he allegedly shot two people and a police officer. He purchased scuba equipment at the store.
TMZ obtained the surveillance video that shows Dorner carrying 2 yellow scuba tanks. TMZ sources said he got the tanks refilled with oxygen.
The video shows the ex-Navy lieutenant carrying two small yellow tanks and a large black scuba tank. He goes to the counter and engages the cashier in conversation. He is seen in the video laughing as he shares a joke with the cashier.
The video shows him paying cash for the equipment. Police obtained the surveillance video from the store on Sunday, TMZ reports. Police authorities have confirmed the man in the video is Dorner. According to an officer, the video reveals "what he was up to."
He arrived at the store at 9:21 PM and left at 9:38 PM. The bodies of his first victims were found 48 hours later at 9 PM February 3.
The evidence of the video is consistent with reports that he tried to steal a boat in San Diego on February 6. He was forced to abandon the boat when he got the prop tangled in a rope reports say. It is significant that Dorner was a member of a Naval undersea warfare unit.
After the incident in San Diego, the search for Dorner then converged on the mountains near Big Bear Lake about 80 miles east of Los Angeles after a burnt-out truck believed to belong to him was found there on Thursday.
