What happens when mom leaves the house? For this father and son team, "The Harlem Shake" of course - the new viral dance craze sweeping the web.
Published on Feb 7, 2013, YouTube user Matt McClard writes: "Mom was out, so uhm this happened." As of 1 a.m. Sunday morning, "Harlem Shake With My Son" has racked up 491,921 views and over 1000 comments.
Most of the comments praised the dad for the happiness he brought his son.
"You sir...are dad of the year," wrote one viewer. "Best dad ever," Jonathan Smith wrote; more than 50 viewers agreed. "I'm 18... but can i be your son?" another viewer asked.
Many viewers watched the video a second time after one viewer noted: "Who noticed the dog in the back ground staring at them like "wtf."
The Harlem Shake
So what's the Harlem Shake, you ask? It's an Internet meme that has spontaneously gone viral.
In most videos, one person starts dancing while everyone else goes about their business. Then, as the LA Times explains, about 15 seconds later, the music changes, along with the scene. The camera cuts, as seen above, and all of a sudden everyone is dancing out of control.
As for the song? Well, it's not entirely new, the Guardian reports. The song "Harlem Shake" by Baauer, a New York DJ, actually came out last year. But it's only now that Baauer's Harlem Shake has gone viral.
The Harlem Shake is also the name of a popular hip hop dance. According to Google Trends, searches for the Harlem Shake have skyrocketed since January. They once peaked back in 2005, attributed to the original dance - but the term fell back under the radar to recently resurface with Bauer's music, Fox6 writes.
