Advancetown - A new video shows just how cute orphaned baby bats can actually be, chronicling a day in the life of the bats and their caretakers.
The video features Trish Wimberley, director of the Australian Bat Clinic and Wildlife Trauma Center. She can be seen feeding, playing and even cuddling with the orphaned bats. The clinic is a sanctuary for hundreds of bats who have been abandoned by their parents, however Wimberley and her volunteer staff are committed.
The care-taking duties are an around the clock commitment. Between feedings, health checks and even doing the baby bat's laundry, Wimberley says:
You must be tireless, [its a] never ending job and you can stay awake too many hours.
The new video is helping Wimberley and her staff get the recognition they deserve however. It also helps to show the world that bats aren't the scary nocturnal bloodsuckers they have been made out to be. Instead, it shows their cute, softer side. As the Huffington Post points out, they resemble bear cubs or puppies, just with "big leathery wings".
