article imageNo surprise that Ted will present at the Oscars; Bond promo out

By Tim O'Brien     Feb 1, 2013 in Entertainment
Beverly Hills - Now is the time when presenters for this year's Oscar telecast get announced. Of course, a story could be done for every name that gets announced.
But, is that necessary? It plays right into the public relations and marketing aspect for them. The most recent example of performers is a way to see how it works. However, those announced are three top-notch artists, which include Barbra Streisand, Adele and Norah Jones. That easily could have been done on one release, but three made for more headlines and reactions.
In the midst of this announcement today came a new promo. It features a James Bond tease.
The list of Oscar presenters will be impressive, too, but a story on every single one of them would be overkill. All award shows do this and with the SAG Awards, this report waited until they were all in, then gave a complete list and a recap on the nominees going into the show.
The Grammys are following the same course right now. Which leads to this. The first release for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has indicated that Mark Wahlberg and Ted will be presenters at the show.
"We are happy to make it possible for Mark and Ted to make their debut appearance on the Oscar stage," said Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, in a release.
This is nice on two fronts. First, they starred in the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time in "Ted." Second, the movie was created and developed by Oscar show host, Seth MacFarlane. Since the announced as MarFarlane as host, the producers have actively used his strengths which will bolster the show and his confidence.
MacFarlane's presence is showing and the producers know it. "And we won't deny that Ted used his pull with our host to get himself the booking," they added.
The host has musical talent, too. This is not lost on Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, producers. If all flows, this may be one of the most entertaining shows in some time. With Streisand simply being there, is a coup. With Jones singing the nominated from tune from "Ted," and Adele singing "Skyfall," the show will feature more music this time around, mixed in with all those movies. MarFarlane co-wrote the song for "Ted," which Jones will sing.
As for what category will Ted help present, perhaps this is a hint. "I'm excited to present an Oscar with Mark Wahlberg," said Ted. "I'm spending the next month learning to pronounce 'Quvenzhané.'" Well, that would be supporting actress.
This was just a sample of what is to come, but once again, a single story for every presenter that gets trotted out, is good marketing but not necessary good reading.
Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, Feb.24, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, Hollywood.
