Norah Jones to perform 'Best Original Song' nominee at Oscars

Nine time Grammy Award winner, Norah Jones of “Don’t Know Why” fame, will be performing her Oscar-nominated song, “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” at the Oscars on 24 February 2013.

The song is derived from Seth MacFarlane’s blockbuster fantasy comedy “Ted” and was nominated for Best Original Song. MacFarlane, who will be hosting the Oscars, is also the creator of “Family Guy”. He plays the voice-over leading role of Ted in the movie opposite leading actors Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg. The movie also won the People’s Choice-Award for Best Comedy Movie and a sequel is said to be on the cards. Jones, 33, who was ranked as the top jazz musician for 2000-2009 by Billboard magazine said, “I had such a great time recording this song with Seth, and was thrilled to find out that it was nominated for an Oscar.” Norah, who is the daughter of Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar first launched her solo career in 2002 with “Come Away with Me”, an album which placed five Grammy Awards under her singing belt. She also claimed the coveted title “Best New Artist” with the album’s release. The album’s sales skyrocketed to over 26 million and was declared diamond. Her second album “Feels Like Home” was released in 2004 with strong country genre undertones and reached Platinum, with international sales of more than 12 million. The star’s subsequent albums include “Not Too Late”, “The Fall” and “Little Broken Hearts.”
