article imageOp-Ed: Joseph Stalin, and those who admire him today

By Alexander Baron     Jan 26, 2013 in Politics
London - Joseph Stalin is arguably the greatest mass murderer in history, yet like many mass murderers, he is not without his admirers. His official fan club is based here in London.
There are two men named Josef Stalin; the first is the one whose name is mentioned along with Chairman Mao, Adolf Hitler and at times Pol Pot as the greatest mass murderer in history. Then there is the Josef Stalin known only to that tiny and ever dwindling band of men and women who keep the faith regardless of the facts.
According to the comrades: "The aim of the Stalin Society is to defend Stalin and his work on the basis of fact and to refute capitalist, revisionist, opportunist and Trotskyist propaganda directed against him."
Yes, you heard right, they've all got it in for Uncle Joe, the capitalists - the people who according to Antony C. Sutton bankrolled his glorious Soviet Union for him. The Revisionists - hang on a minute - doesn't revisionism have something to do with revising? The perceived wisdom is that Stalin is a bad guy, it's you people who are the Revisionists. Trotskyist propaganda? Well, supporters of Trotsky do tend to speak rather disparagingly of the great leader. Maybe that has something to do with an ice pick in the forehead?
What about all the crimes Stalin and his merry men perpetrated? Katyn - the Nazis did that.
The Ukrainian famine and genocide? It never happened. The story was fabricated by the capitalist press, you know, the one owned by the same capitalists who were bankrolling the Bolsheviks. The Vinnytsia massacre? They don't mention that one. The Tiflis Post Office robbery? Nope!
So what do the comrades of Uncle Joe's London fan club believe, and what are their plans for the future? Well, after their Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 17, you are cordially invited to join them for a presentation and discussion. If you aren't inclined to take them too seriously, bear in mind that John Gacy was also a clown. Some jokers are so funny, you'll literally die laughing.
