Star Trek director J.J. Abrams signed deal a on Thursday to direct Disney's new Star Wars film do in theaters in 2015. Abrams has his second Star Trek film 'Into the Darkness' scheduled for release May 17.
It appears that J.J. Abrams signature light flairs will be featured in the newest installment of Star Wars. The new Star Trek, "Into the Darkness", Abrams second with the new look and cast, is set to be released on May 17. On Thursday, Jan. 24 Deadline Hollywood reported that Abrams, according to an unnamed source said, "It's a done deal."

HOLLYWOOD—That prediction came true on Saturday when Disney announced in a press release that it would be J.J. Abrams who would take the helm and steer the studio through Star Wars VII. Can you imagine what Abrams will do with the "light flares" from a light saber?

The article also names Michael Ardnt as the person to write episode VII for Disney. Ardnt wrote Toy Story III. Disney recently purchased the Star Wars franchise for 4 billion dollars and immediately set about preparations for three new movies.
Abrams first big claim to fame was the wildly popular 'Lost' television series. He has several movies under his belt like 'Super 8,' which was produce by Steven Spielberg, fusing his and Abrams film making styles.
He also featured his video cam style film making technique in his take of Godzilla in the film called 'Cloverfield.'
His company 'Bad Robot' also produced the first two of the new installments in the Star Trek franchise.
Producing partner Bryan Burk, and Bad Robot will work with Kathleen Kennedy under the Disney/Lucasfilm banner.
