Actress Penelope Cruz showed up to the "Venuto Al Mondo" (Twice Born) premiere in Spain earlier this month with four hardly noticeable needles in her left ear. They turned out to be tiny acupuncture needles.
According to E!, the actress is practicing a form of acupuncture called auriculotherapy. This treatment is used to relieve chronic pain, depression, nausea, help women lose weight and quit smoking. The therapy has even been used by fertility experts to help women get pregnant.
For users who wish to quit smoking, they simply press or twist the needles whenever they feel the urge to have a cigarette, Mail Online reports.
The needles can also be used to help those struggling with weight curb their cravings. Practitioners have reported "excellent results" with using the treatment for weight loss.
Penelope Cruz has yet to open up about choosing the treatment, but it has been made clear through a close-up of a photo taken at the Venuto Al Mondo movie premiere in Spain that she is undergoing the therapy.
If one didn't know better, they would probably think the Spanish actress was rocking a new trend. Cruz stars in Venuto Al Mondo alongside American actor Emile Hirsch as a single mother who takes her teenage son to Sarajevo, where his father died in the Bosnian conflict.
After the premiere earlier this month, Cruz and her husband, Javier Bardem, elected to stay in Spain and skip out on the Golden Globe Awards , Pop Sugar reports. During their vacation, the couple took their son Leo to the Madrid Zoo.
