article imageMan shot dead after updating Facebook he was about to be shot

Mount Pleasant - While it might sound like he was psychic, there is more to the story. Seems this was his way of saying goodbye to his friends in a Facebook status update after committing a couple of crimes.
Eric Ramsey, 30, from Mt. Pleasant, MI, actually knew that his time was up, so out came his cell phone and he posted the update on his Facebook timeline as follows: "Well folkes [sic] im about to get shot. Peace."
Apparently some of his friends thought he was joking, but shortly after the post, made at 3:15 am, he was fatally shot by a policeman.
It turns out that police were searching for Ramsay after he had allegedly committed a series of crimes. He was thought to have kidnapped and raped a student from the Central Michigan University, then apparently set a house on fire, stolen a sanitation truck, and then for good measure rammed the truck into cars belonging to two Michigan State police troopers.
One sort of gets the idea why he thought he might get shot.
OK, to put matters into more detail, Ramsey first abducted the university student, took her to a house and sexually assaulted her.
He then put the girl back in his car, apparently grabbed a couple of cans of gasoline and then drove off. When he then told the girl that he was going to kill her, she panicked and jumped from the car. She ran to a nearby house and knocked on the door, asking for help. A 14-year-old boy let her in and locked her, his younger sister and himself into a bathroom. While the women was calling the police, Ramsey poured gasoline on the house and set it alight, then fled from the scene.
Shortly after this, the children's father returned home and put the fire out, which apparently caused no serious damage.
Ramsey then led the police on a chase through two counties during which he rammed a state police trooper's car, and apparently destroyed his own car. He then stole a sanitation truck and rammed two more police vehicles.
As noted in a press release from the Isabella County Sheriff, Leo Mioduszewki, "A short while later, a Crawford County Deputy located the sanitation truck, and the suspect ended up hitting the deputy's car head on. The deputy then got out of the patrol car, ran up to the cab of the pickup, and fired shots, fatally wounding the suspect."
It is not clear exactly what time Ramsey was shot, or how he managed to make the Facebook post before it happened. Still, it does seem to have been the only way he could offer a short goodbye to his pals.
The post was up on his Facebook timeline up until Friday, but has since been deleted. The following is a screen capture obtained by NBC News before its deletion. There were apparently 197 comments on the status update at that stage.
