article imagePhotos: Artist Dan Lester draws himself into his work

By JohnThomas Didymus     Jan 18, 2013 in Entertainment
Dan Lester, 21, a Leeds-based artist uses digital techniques to combine photography and pencil drawings into composite pieces that leave you bewildered and confused as to whether you are viewing photography or pencil drawing.
The effect is mind-bending.
Lester's work combines the model and the artwork, or as it happens when he draws himself into the frame, the artist and the artwork in one composite. As mymodernmet comments, "His skilled hand is an extension of his drawing and vice versa."
The Daily Mail explains that Lester creates his unique portraits using his friends for photographic models which he adapts to create his unique blend of photography and pencil drawings as shown below:

Before a new work, he takes a photograph that gives the overall plan. The finished work uses digital techniques to blend pencil drawings of parts of the overall image with the photograph. The pieces below show the artist incorporating himself into his work:

An intriguing piece is this self-portrait on a wall (see below) that appears to be choking him.

According to the Daily Mail, Lester takes inspiration for the piece below from the graphic novel series "Scott Pilgrim," which was adopted into a movie, "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," in 2010.
