A San Antonio, TX homeowner shot two men who were reportedly attempting to steal his SUV from outside his home. One of men died while the other is recovering at a hospital.
Ken5.com reports the incident happened at 600 block of Lightstone Drive in Stone Oak and Hardy Oak Boulevard shortly before 2 a.m. Police say the 25-year-old homeowner said he heard someone attempting to break into his parked Toyota 4Runner. He went outside and saw a man inside his car.
According to
WOAI.com, the homeowner claimed that as he approached the vehicle, he thought he saw the person in his car holding a gun. He fired at the suspect, hitting him in the upper body.
The other suspect attempted to escape in a getaway car, but the homeowner fired and hit him. The suspect crashed the car into a parked car about a block away and rolled out into a lawn.
According to
Ken5, another homeowner who witnessed the crash said he went outside and tried to get the wounded man's name. The man did not respond, but said: "I feel like I'm dying."
Emergency responders attempted, unsuccessfully, to revive the 32-year-old man.
His companion was taken to San Antonia Military Medical Center in critical condition,
WOAI.com reports.
A neighbor justified the homeowner's reaction, saying he was only defending his property. According to
Ken5, David Oliver, said: "I fully agree with it. I spent 30 years in military; I'm familiar with firearms. I think they have a right to intervene.”
WOAI.com reports police say the homeowner is not facing any charges because he was only protecting his property.
