The Japanese comedy-horror martial arts movie called "Dead Sushi" comes out later this month on both DVD and Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray format is a Best Buy exclusive until March.
After being originally screened at Montreal's Fantasia Festival back in summer of 2012, “Dead Sushi” has been screened at various film festivals across the world before making an official theatrical screening this month. It is reported that Dead Sushi will be available for both DVD and Blu-Ray disc later this month; but, the Blu-Ray version is going to be a Best Buy exclusive on January 22. The other stores will get the Blu-Ray version come March. If you're not interested in getting the Blu-Ray version, you can always get the DVD version of Dead Sushi.
The story focuses on Keiko who is the daughter of a legendary sushi chef and apparent Karate master. Being fed up with her father's strict martial arts style regimen, Keiko runs off and gets work at a rural hot springs inn. At first, she is ridiculed by the staff and guests. But, she ends up being the heroine as a disgruntled ex-researcher spikes the sushi with some sort of experimental serum. The pieces of sushi reanimate and take on lives of their own. Turning into hostile and murderous fiends, the pieces of sushi wreak havoc on everybody and its up to Keiko to save the day.
This can be deemed an interesting and comedic twist on sushi. It is an example of the types of comedy horror films to come out from Japanese cinema. Watching the trailer let alone the movie could make a person think twice before getting seafood let alone sushi.
