Sunday church services at Lake City Assembly of God in Medical Lake, Washington were canceled after members arrived to find the church had been vandalized. The damage is being estimated to be around $50,000 and has moved future services into the local gym until all repairs are completed.
Spokane County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation into the vandalism and did tell
KHQ News that they do have a lead that they will be looking into and finger prints have been recovered from the church.
The damage includes a broken window, spray paint on walls in a classroom, smashed vending machine, 12 doors were "kicked" in, glass was shattered on the pews, and fire extinguishers were sprayed in the kitchen area. The vandal also made a coffee drink and took some snack foods from the church coffee bar.
This past Sunday nearly 40 people volunteered their time and labor to help clean up the church. Members of the congregation are saying that the vandalism was a hate crime. There is no clear indication as to when the repairs and clean up will be completed.
