article imageReview: Google+ social network with a diverse community of members

By Anthony Carranza     Jan 14, 2013 in Technology
Google Plus continues to expand its presence in the world of social networking and gradually rolling out new products onto the market to attract members.
Google+ has build a large community of users online. It's developed a successful platform amassing over 500 million members, which is half of Facebook’s number of users to date. Visual.ly’s infographic published three days ago offers a snapshot of the members for the Google+ social network that diversifies as it continues to grow.
The Community platform for data visualizations and Infographics, Visual.ly, explains who are some of the members that belong to the search engine.
“Although Google+ is shrouded in mystery, recent changes to the service might push Google’s social layer into the light,” according to the infographic description.
So who are some of the members with large followers? What age group is most commonly using Google+? What gender is most predominant? What type of occupation draws online users to the social network? The infographic explains each group in percentages and how they are classified.
Not surprisingly, Larry Page-American computer scientist and co-founder of Google- is in the leading pack having 4.8 million followers on Google plus. He is not the most influential, however, since celebrities like Britney Spears have 5.5 million users for example. Photographer and Blogger Thomas Hawk has 5.3 million followers along with Billy Wilson attracting 11 million users.
Categories of Google plus member community
Top Age Group: 18 to 24 representing 45.6 percent
Relationship status: Single representing 42.9 percent
Gender: Male representing 62.5 percent
City: Sao Paulo 4.2 percent
State: California representing 15.4 percent
Country: United States (U.S) 33.4 percent
Occupation: Student representing 36.1 percent
Top School: University of Chicago 4.3 percent
The data that was collected to put this visual representation into perspective was based on a sample set of 97 million users, on Jan. 9, 2013.
The tech giant in mid Sep. 2012 reported 400 million users and in December of the same year surpassed 500 million members, according to the social media guide Mashable.
Another important metric to note in the analysis is the 135 million monthly active users. The way Google measures active users includes those who are on its other services like video-streaming site YouTube, Google Search and its app store.

Zoomsphere is a great tool to compare each individual platform (Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and Pinterest. It analyzes the Following: All Pages, Brands or products, Companies, Local Business or Places and Profiles.
Below is a few screenshots, which confirm some of the data collected from Visual.ly's infographic.
Google will continue its efforts to intensify its further sophistication in the world of social networking and build from its impressive portfolio on the market.
