article imageRand Paul accuses Obama of acting like a 'king' over Exec. Orders

By Andrew Moran     Jan 14, 2013 in Politics
Jerusalem - Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul slammed President Barack Obama in an interview with a news outlet in Jerusalem on Monday. The Tea Party favorite accused the president of acting like a "king" by “usurping the Constitution.”
It was reported that the president renewed his threats of issuing Executive Orders to implement gun control measures, even if it meant bypassing the Congress. Speaking at a press conference Monday, the final one of his first term in office, Obama confirmed that he is reviewing a list of recommendations by Vice President Joe Biden on how to reduce gun violence, which will be announced sometime next week.
In an interview with CBN News, Sen. Paul said that some members of Congress are willing to fight such Executive Orders and defend the Constitution. He further compared the president to acting like a “king.”
“I'm against having a king. I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress – that's someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch,” stated the Tea Party senator. “I've been opposed to executive orders, even with Republican presidents. But one that wants to infringe on the Second Amendment, we will fight tooth and nail.”
If the president does indeed take such action, Paul vowed “stop him from usurping the Constitution” and “running roughshod” over the House of Representatives and the Senate. He added that there would be a tumultuous debate if Obama makes the decision to actually initiate executive action on gun control or the Second Amendment.
This isn’t the first time that Paul has espoused such strong language against the president and Washington itself. In December, the Kentucky Senator published an op-ed piece that criticized both the Democrats and the Republicans over the fiscal cliff negotiations.
“Taxing citizens at this level is a tyranny even Europe hasn't reached, and still it would only address about one-third of our deficit. If one actually does the math, ‘taxing the rich’ turns out to be no real solution at all, only fantasyland rhetoric,” wrote Paul.
