article imageCar bomb explodes in central Tel Aviv, Israel (updated)

By Anne Sewell     Jan 10, 2013 in World
Tel Aviv - According to an Al Arabiya correspondent, a car bomb has exploded in central Tel Aviv, near the Israeli Defense Ministry.
Reportedly a parked Mazda car exploded on the corner of Shlomo Hamelech and Jabotinsky streets in Tel Aviv, right next to a bus, which was fortunately empty at the time.
According to the Times of Israel, seven people were injured in the blast. However, the Jewish Press is quoting ten people injured.
Initially it was unclear whether the explosion was crime related, or was a politically motivated terror attack. However ITV is quoting local police as saying that it was criminal related and not a Palestinian bombing.
Magen David Adom (MDA) apparently initially called it a Mass Casualty Event, but have since canceled this.
Update:
Haaretz is reporting that the blast, detonated by a nearby motorcyclist, was apparently an attempt to assassinate crime ring leader Nissim Alperon.
Police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld said, "Apparently it is a criminal incident, a settling of accounts."
Police officers have reportedly caught the person they believe is responsible for the car bomb.
