US actor Matt Dallas has taken to Twitter to announce his engagement to the musician Blue Hamilton, coming out as gay in the process.
The star of ABC Family's Kyle XY revealed his engagement to Hamilton at the weekend. He tweeted, "Starting off the year with a new fiancé, @bluehamilton. A great way to kick off 2013!"
The 30-year-old actor is the latest in a long line of people in the public eye to come out, including Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Frank Ocean (Channel Orange), Paul Iacono (The Hard Times of RJ Berger) and the boxer Orlando Cruz.
Dallas is best known for playing the eponymous role in Kyle XY, the Eric Bress/J. Mackye Gruber-created ABC Family science-fiction mystery-drama series that ran from 2006 to 2009. His fiancé, Blue Hamilton, is a Los Angeles-based musician.
Matt Dallas will star in the upcoming Thunder Road, a film that follows three soldiers and their "physical and mental hardships and personal triumphs [...] as they attempt to assimilate back into civilian life after returning home from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan".
