Not satisfied with Sony's Playstation Vita or the Nintendo? You don't have to worry for long because NVIDIA is joining the club with their own collection.
Don't expect anything like Super Mario Brothers on this console because NVIDIA is kicking it up a notch. NVIDIA is focusing on making computer games portable with its Xbox 360 like controller with a five inch fold out screen.
This console codenamed "Project SHIELD" features the A15 quad core CPU, which NVIDIA claims is the world's fastest mobile processor. This console also features an HDMI port, micro-USB and USB ports, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card slot for expanded storage. (DVICE)
According to NVIDIA, the console features a controller, very similar to Xbox's with two joysticks, A, B, X, and Y keys along with a navigation pad. In addition, the controller comes with NVIDIA's own center navigation buttons similar to the Sony Playstation 3 controller.
As for the display, the console supports a five inch multi-touch retinal touch screen running at 720p. Dimensions measure 1280 x 720 with a 294 pixel density (dpi). Supported with this is a battery claiming to last 24 hours of HD video playback and up to 10 hours of gaming.
However, no gaming experience is complete without a speaker system and a no lag connection. Luckily, the designers have implemented an 802.11n 2x2 MIMO wireless connection for high bandwidth, no lag gaming. Not to be forgotten, but the console also features a pair of integrated speakers completing the gaming experience.
Rather than focusing too much details on the platform, NVIDIA will be equipped with Android Jelly Bean, also known as Android 4.0 offer a wide selection of applications as well as the gaming experience.
According to DVICE:
NVIDIA says it hopes to release Project SHIELD by Q2 of 2013 in the U.S. and Canada, but has yet to announce pricing.
Just to re-iterate and clear up any confusion, this console, despite running on Android, also supports PC Games as well as any Android application games. This means no more AFK (away from keyboard) moments and spawn killing from your favorite games. Need to use the toilet? Now you can game and do your private business at the same time!
