Thousands of people watched a free concert in The Domain park on the opening night of the Sydney Festival 2013, which runs from 5 – 27 January.
Following the fun run event, in which a man ran a marathon on a treadmill and the arrival of the giant yellow rubber duck in Darling Harbour earlier in the day, a concert was held from 8pm to 11pm on Saturday, marking the start of the arts festival.
Crowds of people packed The Domain park to watch the free concert. Some had brought along picnic blankets to sit on, but most were dancing to the live music, especially closer to the stage where the crowds were more densely packed.
NSW Police estimated that approximately 30,000 people attended the event.
The police praised the well-behaved Festival crowds and said that no arrests were made.
