A promotional
trailer for an upcoming Japanese anime series called “
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.” The story centers around the issue about war and peace. In the anime, the main character is a young teenage
mecha pilot named Red who is part of the Human Galactic Alliance. Red, along with other HGA forces, are in a battle in the far reaches of the galaxy against a race of aliens. In battle, Red and his humanoid robot called “Chamber” are sucked into a time/space distortion.
While in the distortion, Red is in hibernation. He ends up on the planet Earth, reminiscent of the movie “Water World,” as the planet is completely flooded. Humans live abroad a fleet of ships which act as artificial islands which is reminiscent to the role-playing game called “Xenoblade” where civilization lives upon two giant humanoid mechas. The story seems to focus on Red struggling to deal in a peaceful world while knowing nothing but combat along being completely clueless about Earth let alone the planet's history.
In short this is a story that can relate to just about anybody that's interested in military politics, social politics, geopolitics, anthropology, and so forth. You have the allure of animation for the anime fans and something for the intellectual crowd.
This series is due to be aired in Japan sometime around April 2013.
