Critics of Obama and liberal politicians who oppose the proposal for armed guards in schools after the Sandy Hook shootings are pointing out that Sidwell Friends, a private school that Sasha and Maila Obama attend, has 11 armed security officers.
Breitbart.com reports that the school is even presently seeking to hire an additional police officer.
The website opines that in the circumstance of opposition of Senate Democrats to the suggestion that schools should either have armed guards or that teachers should be allowed to carry arms at school, Obama's children attending a school with 11 armed guards is hypocritical.
Breitbart.com comments: "Shame on President Obama for seeking more gun control and for trying to prevent the parents of other school children from doing what he has clearly done for his own. His children sit under the protection guns afford, while the children of regular Americans are sacrificed. "
The website anticipates the countering argument that it is standard procedure for the children of the US presidents to receive Secret Service protection, irrespective of the incidence of mass shootings at schools, by pointing out that keeping armed guards is "standard operating procedure for the school, period." Breitbart.com adds: "And this is the reason people like NBC's David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell, they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren't used (and weren't even allowed)."
But MSN Now argues that Breitbart.com misses the point. According to the website, Obama's children do not attend Sidwell because armed guards are "standard operating procedure." Sasha and Malia Obama attend Sidwell Friends, "as did other first Kids like Chelsea Clinton, Tricia Nixon, and Archibald Roosevelt...," MSN Now reports.
The websites notes it is part of a longstanding tradition for children of US presidents to attend Sidwell, and it is also "standard operating procedure" for the the kids of US presidents to receive armed guard protection.
