article imageAnonymous plans government and corporate armageddon with PM2012

By Greta McClain     Dec 19, 2012 in Technology
Anonymous appears to be planning their own form of armageddon on 12/21/12, and it has nothing to do with the Mayan calendar, Nibaru or the end of the world.
Via their Facebook page, the politically minded hacker group, Anonymous, reminded followers that Project Mayhem 2012 (PM2012) would begin on December 12th. The project is scheduled to run through December 21st. The project calls for anyone who works in an information technology capacity or who has access to the harddrives of computer networks to collect information regarding "illegal" activity. In what Anonymous calls "a global 'Fight Club’", the plan involves supporters uploading gathered information to a centralized database. The information will then be leaked at a later time, exposing "massive amounts" of state and corporate secrets. Anonymous tells supporters:
“Imagine you purchase a USB drive. Imagine you take it to your work place. Imagine you collect evidence of illegality and corruption. Imagine together we expose all lies. Imagine we leak it all.”
In a video posted on December 9th of this year, Anonymous says:
"On the 10 days that go from 12-12-2012 to 12-21-2012, the world will see an unprecedented amount of Corporate, Financial, Military and State leaks that will have been secretly gathered by millions of CONSCIENTIOUS citizens, vigilantes, whistle blowers and initiates."
According to Cyber War Zone, the Anonymous platform TYLER was activated on December 7th. TYLER is a free, secure, and decentralized online platform which was built to replace Wikileaks. The release of TYLER appears to be connected to PM2012. Those participating in Project Mayhem are encouraged to use TYLER to upload information gathered about illegal corruption. Many in the hactivist community believe the name TYLER was chosen because of Brad Pitt's Fight Club character, Tyler Durden.

Anonymous has not publicly announced what they plan to do with the data uploaded to TYLER, however on the first day of the operation, Anonymous-affiliated Team GhostShell claimed to have infiltrated 1.6 million accounts linked to government agencies, including the Pentagon, NASA and the Federal Reserve. Information including email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses and notes from defense tests are said to have been gathered.
Many in the hactivist community believe that on December 21, 2012 at 11:11 a.m., Anonymous will begin to post all the information gathered via TYLER, leaking 'the lies" and "corruption" of some of the worlds biggest corporations and governments. It is also being speculated that Anonymous will shut down the websites of the "worst offenders". The notion seems logical based on an Anonymous statement which reads in part:
"Imagine we finally find the COURAGE needed to BECOME THE CHANGE WE WISH TO SEE in the World. Imagine we conquer Freedom by beginning to be Free. Imagine we conquer Justice by beginning to do Fair. Imagine we conquer Truth by beginning to do and be True to ourselves. Imagine the System is built upon lies.
Imagine we Leak it all. Imagine we all synchronize our clocks to act at the same Time, on the Winter solstice, the 21st of December 2012 at eleven minutes past eleven local time."
