In the run up to Christmas many Sydneysiders decorate their houses with Christmas lights. This can become very competitive with neighbours trying to outdo one another by having the best display.
Perhaps the best place in Sydney to go to view the Christmas lights displays is around Second and Third Street in Ashbury, which is located in the inner-west, about 10kms west of Sydney city centre. It is situated between Ashfield and Canterbury (hence its name) and can be reached from Hurlstone Park, Canterbury, or Ashfield train stations, then a short walk, or by bus.
People drive slowly down the streets or get out and walk around. Residents sometimes give out sweets to children.
