Have you ever watched reality shows that feature some type of room or building that needs renovated? Have you ever wondered where all of their old décor, furniture, construction waste, or even their just plain trash goes?
Founded in 2001, Junk It is a small to large-scale waste or “junk” removal business based in Toronto, Canada. The company that offers “do-it-yourself options to full-scale trash removal, clean-up, and disposal services” has been featured on shows like Junk Raiders, Canada’s Worst Drivers, Home to Stay, My Parents’ House, and Food Network’s very popular Restaurant Makeover. According to Junk It, cleaning up a restaurant after renovation is a lot of work, saying that, “There is so much junk we pick up from these restaurants but we recycle a lot of it because it is construction waste. Lumber, concrete, drywall can all be sorted and recycled. We try to avoid putting as much of this stuff in the landfill as possible. Many TV shows use our services because they demand the most reliable and high quality services.”
Junk It came from humble beginning when founder Christopher Luciano was getting his own junk hauled away from his house and the company arrived two hours late and was completely unprofessional the entire time they were there. Luciano had a background in business and technology, which made the start-up of Junk It much easier than it could have been. With that background Luciano has created a company that even has a mobile site that you can access on your phone to schedule a service.
Not only does Junk It do clean-ups for television shows, but they also will go to individual places of work or homes. Junk It begins the process by offering the client a free estimate that can either be done over the phone or in person and then if accepted will begin loading your trash immediately. After picking up the junk they do a clean sweep of the area to make sure that everything is loaded and the area is spotless, going so far as to wear boot covers. Once they have the junk in their possession and you have received the bill then they will go on to either recycle, donate, deposit your junk at a licensed center, therefore providing an eco-friendly alternative to simply throwing away your trash of burning it. Their friendliness to the environment doesn’t stop there as up to 60% of what they remove is to be reused in a sustainable fashion. Junk It also does much in the line of charity work and community events.
For the month of November, Junk It participated in Movember which is an event put on around the world during throughout the entire month of November where men grow and style their mustaches in order to raise awareness to men’s health issues. Junk It decided to raise funds for Movember by broadcasting the event on their blog and donating all of the money raised to programs run directly by Movember and by their Canadian partner, Prostate Cancer Canada.
