news reports that state police responded to a school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT today. Lt.Paul Vance spoke to NBC but gave no information about any injuries or the identity of the shooter.

reports one child was seriously wounded and was seen being carried out of the school by a police officer.
reports that police reported a shooter in the school's main office just after 9:40 am. Some children were still in the school at 10:30 am. Around 10:45 am, heavily armed officers gathered at the school where stretchers were set up.
Secretary of superintendent Kathy June of the Newtown Public School District released a statement
that all schools in the district are on lockdown. "The district is taking preventive measures by putting all schools in lockdown until we ensure the safety of all students and staff," she says.

say ambulances and other emergency vehicles were on the way and staging was set up near the school
Dr. Robinson said it is best if parents do not try to call the district at this time, and the school district will release a message once further information is known.
