Each and every one of us has gone to the doctor and been prescribed medication only to wonder how we will actually react to it.
Every one of us has gone to the doctor and been prescribed medication only to wonder how we will actually react to it. Sure there is the cautionary label on the back of each pill bottle and side-effects are clearly represented in their commercials, but now more than ever do we as a society need to know more about we put into our bodies.
EHealthMe, a site that publishes post-market studies and analyzes data from the FDA and the health community, provides a way for consumers to learn more about what reactions they may have to certain medications alone or with other pharmaceuticals. Says the site, “The results are readily available to health care professionals and consumers. On eHealthMe, we believe that collaboratively we can transform our health care system to be more transparent, safer, and less expensive.”
On eHealthMe it is incredibly simple to find the results of their extensive studies. One must simply type into the search bar on the front page of the site the medications that they are on and then press either “Check my drugs” or “Compare my drugs”; such an easy task to perform for a search that is so crucial. If you are on different medications for various conditions and have not checked to see if they are compatible, then using a site like this could possibly be life-saving (take for instance this study of an 82 year old woman on three separate medications)
Not only does this site make it easy to learn more about the medications that you are taking, but you can also read up on any condition that you may have. EHealthMe has hundreds of thousands of reports on various illnesses, the most common being the likes of Asthma, Breast Cancer, and Depression. By reading these reports you may see common symptoms and complications associated with the condition and the drugs that are reported to be the most effective in treating that particular condition.
Essentially eHealthMe is a giant data-base of where large amounts of studies and research pay off for the average consumer. It is located in Mountain View, California and has worked with many universities and institutions such as IBM, Mayo Clinic, Northwestern University, and Yahoo!. It is progressively making its name known in the online health community, having its work featured in Community Oncology, Dermatology Online, EANO, and other larger health organizations.
