For a limited time, THQ is offering a free PC copy of the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter game called "Metro: 2033." The promotion ends on December 16 or until supplies run out.
The game company known as THQ is feeling quite generous for the holiday season. It's most anticipated title at the moment is “Metro: Last Light” which is slated for release for March 2013. This is the sequel to the 2010 title “Metro 2033” which is adapted from the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Originally, Metro: Last Light was going to be named “Metro 2034” and to be adapted from the book of the same name which takes place after Metro 2033. However, it is said that Metro: Last Light will have no relation to Metro 2034. Still, players are thrust into post-apocalyptic Moscow in which the surface air is not breathable to humans. You still have to go up against mutants and hostile humans and so forth.
While one has to wait until March 2013 to buy Metro: Last Light, THQ is offering a limited-time online Facebook deal. THQ is offering, until December 16 or until supplies run out, a free copy of Metro 2033.
The article on Geekosystem questions if this is a marketing ploy by THQ. It points out that the company is going through troubles right now. However, it doesn't change the fact that Metro 2033 can be downloaded for free at the moment. You get a free game out of it for the most part. So far, this copy is available for the PC.
Getting this free copy is pretty simple. You will need two accounts. The first account is going to be a Facebook account. The second account needed is a Steam account. You can download and install Steam network for free on your PC. On Facebook, you need to go to the Facebook page of Metro (THQ) and "like" the page. Then, you need to go to the “free download” section. You need to click on the “reveal code” to get the product activation code and then click on the file you plan on downloading.
Once you download the file, you need to have the Steam account. After downloading the file, the game will be installed through the Steam program.
As long as you have a Steam account, you can access your library of games from any computer. Just make sure you have Steam installed on those systems.
If you are anticipating Metro: Last Light but haven't played Metro 2033 yet, here's your chance to get a free copy of the game. Other than that, a copy of Metro 2033 is about $19 to $20 off the Steam Network.
In Metro 2033, you are thrust into the role of a young male survivor named Artyom. You have to deal with mutants, the Soviet Union, the Nazi Fourth Reich, gangsters, and so forth. For a free game, Metro 2033 should keep you occupied for a few days.
