A Texas man has been arrested in connection with carving a pentagram on his young son's back. He told authorities the reason why he did it was because 12-12-12 was a “holy day."
Yesterday, a 911 call was received shortly after midnight where a man called in and told the dispatcher he "shed some innocent blood".
The dispatcher asked him what he meant and he said he carved a pentagram on his son.
According to the Los Angeles Times the man, when asked why he did it, said "Because it's a holy day."
Police were dispatched to the house. In the meantime, the boy's mother was reportedly outside calling for help and a neighbor had helped her call 911.
“He’s trying to hurt my 6-year-old”, the boy's mother was saying. “Please hurry! Oh, God!”
Police arrived to find a horrific scene. There was blood all over the front door and a 6-year-old boy wearing only pajama bottoms; a pentagram covered most of his back. A police statement says authorities believe a box cutter was used.
The boy was brought to the local hospital and was said to be in stable condition with no stitches required.
The father that allegedly did the cutting has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault of a child. Brent Troy Bartel is currently being held in the Quad Cities Jail with bail set at $500,000, reported Dallas News.
"This is a very bizarre case," Sgt. Nathan Stringer said, reported CNN. He noted the man's demeanor was "flat and emotionless".
