Digital Journal reported yesterday on the top Google searches performed in the UK during 2012.
Now we have the top search terms used in the USA for 2012, as told to MSN by Google technologist, Daniel Sieberg:
1. Whitney Houston - following the untimely death of this popular singer, Google was inundated with searches.
2. Hurricane Sandy was another popular search item during and after the superstorm, and interestingly, "donate Sandy" was a trending search term attached to that, as people reached out to help.
3. Election 2012 - sort of a no-brainer this one, as much interest was obviously taken in the whole election process.
4. Hunger Games - a popular movie, which was a massive box-office success, grossing $685 million worldwide against its budget of $78 million.
5. Jeremy Lin - an American professional basketball player. Quoting "Linsanity", Sieberg said that he thought "a lot of people were trying to get some context", with Lin's great run with the Knicks, people wanted to know more about him.
6. The Olympics 2012 - a lot of interest was obviously shown on Google about the various sports and athletes, and who won which medals.
