Sonora - Child abuse is a horrible crime at any time and in any circumstance, being a victim at three months old however is simply beyond comprehension.
On Saturday, Kevin Boehmer was arrested on charges of felony cruelty to a child resulting in injury or death.
26 year-old Boehmer had taken his three month-old baby girl to Sonora Regional Medical Center because she was "having trouble breathing".
MML reports, Hospital medical staff noticed the baby had "noticeable bruising" and signs of previous injuries.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Sgt. Jeff Wilson, stated, "She is not expected to survive"
Boehmer's wife is currently serving time in Washington state on charges of child abuse in relation to another child.
As of today, the Sheriff's Dept. has noted that the charges could be increased as the investigation unfolds, and more information is uncovered. Sgt. Wilson also suggested charges may be placed against the mother for this crime also.
Sgt. Wilson told MML today that: "The baby has visible marks on her neck and chest. The hospital will be taking x-rays to see if she has any past injuries."
The investigation has not been completed and Boehmer has not yet been found guilty of the crimes with which he is charged. A trial in Tuolumne County may not be possible due to the public outcry against Boehmer, with a change of venue if this goes to trial, being a near certainty.
UPDATE: Kalii Boehmer, age 3 months was declared legally dead as of Thursday, Kali was taken off life support last night at 10:15 p.m. at Oakland Children's Hospital as reported at MML. Kali had exhibited no brain activity, but was kept on life support to allow organ donation.
Tuolumne County district Attorney Mike Knowles has indicated he will refile new charges of homicide next week.
