article imageToronto Mayor Rob Ford taking 'personal time' for vacation

By Andrew Moran     Dec 11, 2012 in Politics
Toronto - Although Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was allowed to remain in office until his appeal of the conflict-of-interest ruling was heard, his office confirmed to media that Ford is officially on vacation and will not be seen at city hall this week.
The mayor left the city Monday, but Ford’s press secretary, George Christopoulos, confirmed that he was taking some personal time for the holiday season. He didn’t verify where he was going or when he would return – the last time he left Toronto people posted pictures onto Twitter after they bumped into him.
It was reported that the mayor was spotted at Pearson International Airport.
“Just passed through outgoing Pearson customs and security with Mayor Rob Ford — lined up with all us other schlubs,” tweeted @jkdegen Canadian novelist, poet and Executive Director of The Writers' Union of Canada.
Both city council and executive committee meetings have officially ended for the year, but budget hearings are continuing down at city hall with a vote expected to take place in January.
The “personal time” for vacation occurs a few days after Justice Gladys Pardu granted Ford's application last week to stay at city hall until he has his appeal heard and decided. The appeal hearing is scheduled for Jan. 7 and a decision is expected to be made weeks later.
