She stuffed towels in her front and behind to caricature the Afro-American's supposedly big breasts and bottom and did a performance that delighted the crowd.
Although the performance was ostensibly comedy, some have protested Wozniacki's performance, describing it as racist.
reportedly comments: "When a white woman makes fun of a black women’s body, especially in a way that hypersexualizes her and draws on the stereotype of black women’s big butts, it’s racist."
makes some points that appear to support the argument that Wozniacki's performance had a racist element to it, whether or not it was intentional: "It’s Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova laughing about how Serena Williams looks, which has a possibly-unintentional 'two boney white ladies don’t like how the curvy black woman looks.'"
And significantly, while Wozniacki's spoof hypersexualizes Williams, it ignores her best qualities, her superior tennis skills...
However, readers on MSN Now disagree that Wozniacki's performance was racist.
says: "Yea but if a black woman makes fun of a white woman's features. The way they talk and so on... Then its just good comedy. They are being funny and clever. The white person does it and it is racist. boo! Evil honkey. Isnt it funny that it doesn't go both ways. Maybe if we could learn to make fun of each other. Celebrate our differences in humor. We might start to get along."
Kneon_Knight comments: "Oh, it obviously is. It's a blonde white girl doing it, and as we, the faithful MSN readership know all too well, the only race capable of racism is white."
McMotors said: " I'm African American male and I find this hilarious. The women who find it offensive, do so, I believe, because of the towels in the skirt mimicking a Big Butt. I doubt that they have any objections to the towels in the top mimicking Huge Hooters. Let's face it. Serena is 'Built.' Wozniacki is good natured and funny all the time, and I do believe more intelligent than to make a mockery of Black Women in front of the world."
