On December 17, fans of the Capcom games are able to download a free copy of the 8-bit crossover called "Street Fighter X Mega Man" for their PCs.
The notable video game company, also one of the biggest fighting game developers & publishers, known as Capcom issued a press release closing off the 25th anniversary of the “Street Fighter” series. In 2013, it will be the 25th anniversary of “Mega Man” which is another popular series that came from Capcom. In “Marvel vs. Capcom,” Mega Man and several characters from the Street Fighter series would represent the Capcom side. The same thing happened again for “Marvel vs. Capcom 2.” When it came for “Tatsunoko vs. Capcom,” Mega Man Volnutt along with a few Street Fighter characters represented the Capcom side. When “Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds” came out, it would be Zero from the “Mega Man X” series along with a few Street Fighter characters that represented the Capcom side.
However, there was never a serious crossover between Street Fighter and Mega Man. Capcom, in its press release, has announced that all PC users will be able to download a copy of “Street Fighter X Mega Man” from its online store known as “Capcom Unity.” The download will be for free. However, it's not a fighting game; instead, it plays like the 8-bit Mega Man games for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) consoles. However, it has the Street Fighter motif. Instead of going up against Dr. Wily's robots such as Quick Man, Gemini Man, Air Man, Boomerang Man, Elec Man, Cut Man, and so forth, the end-stage bosses are notable characters from the Street Fighter series such as Ryu, Chun-Li, Rose, Blanka, Dhalsim, etc.
This game will be in 8-bit mode. The game will play like the old Mega Man series which brings back a sense of familiarity.
Street Fighter X Mega Man is a collaboration between Capcom and its fan base. The author of the game is Seow Zong Hui who goes by the name of “Sonic.” On his YouTube account, Hui goes by the name “Sonic88.”
So far, it looks as if Hui has been working on this game for a couple of years. As Hui makes his progress, he uploads his works in progress (WIP) on YouTube for people to see and give feedback. Like in the Mega Man games, you defeat the bosses and take their powers. In the case of the Street Fighter bosses, you beat them and take their powers such as the “Hadouken.”
If you enjoy what you see and love both franchises, there's the free download on December 17.
