Researchers in Antarctica discovered a bizarre creature in an ancient cocoon. Researchers say that this creature is unlike anything ever seen before.
According to IscienceTimes, researchers discovered the creature earlier this year but they were not able to identify it right away. However, the creature has now been identified.
The creature is a species of Vorticella, which is a protozoa that is characterized by their bizarre stalk and bell shape.
According to io9, what makes this discovery special is that the soft body microorganism that was inside the cocoon was well preserved, and it survived the ravages of time.
According to Inquisitr, scientists believe that the creature was well preserved because of the mucous membrane it was residing in.
The discovery of the creature in Antarctica was detailed in the Journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences earlier last week.
