Just as mantyhose
took Europe by storm, meggings have become the must have look for men in Manhattan. Even celebrities have been making a fashion statement by appearing in figure hugging meggings. The Telegraph
reported Justin Bieber, Russell Brand and Lenny Kravitz have sported meggings in public.
Some companies opt to call their male leggings long johns, but fashion aficionados prefer to refer to the latest must have look as meggings. Uniqlo is one company selling leggings for men. NY Mag
reported Patrick Jones of Uniqlo said "Guys have been wearing slimmer and slimmer pants in the last few years, so the natural progression is to move to the man legging."
As meggings tend to draw attention to the male anatomy, bulge can be a bit of a problem for non posers, but easily resolved by the addition of a long top. Phillip Salem, owner of the boutique Owen opined “Bulge is for the bedroom." Meggings from hot designers are retailing at up to $300 a pair, with some stores selling out.
Mark Dorosz who lives in Manhattan is a fan of the latest trend. The Telegraph
reported he said: "Male tights are so much more comfortable than skinny jeans. I've always had good legs and it's nice to show them off all year round. There are so many people wearing exotic clothes in New York that nobody cares about a man wearing leggings if it works for him."
Just as mantyhose had their detractors, not everyone sees the point of meggings. Gabriel Cru from the Bronx laughed at the notion of meggings, saying "Men in tights? Get out of here. We don't do men in tights in New York. That's European!"
