Police in Italy have said that they found an Egyptian sphinx that was stolen. The 2,000-year-old sphinx was found near the capital Rome.
According to BBC, police say that they believe that the statue was going to be taken out of the country.
According to Washington Post, the statue was near an ancient Etruscan necropolis, inside a box. Italian Tax Police Maj. Massimo Rossi said that the statue is about two feet tall and about four feet long.
According to GlobalPost, the statue was found after police conducted a routine search of a vehicle. During the search, police found photos of Egyptian artifacts and the photos eventually led them to the location of the statue.
The statue was reportedly stolen from Montem Rossulum necropolis. The statue will now have a new home at Villa Giulia museum.
