London - The stars aligned on the red carpet at the world premiere of Les Misérables, including Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, and Helena Bonham Carter.
On December 5, the official Facebook page of Les Misérables noted that "The live stream from the world premiere of Les Misérables will begin in under 15 minutes. Tune in now on Yahoo! Movies."
Those who tuned-in saw the A-list cast of superstars make their way down the red carpet to the two cinemas in Leicester Square that showed the film.

The top stars, Hugh Jackman, who plays Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway, who plays Fantine, Russell Crowe, who plays Javert, and Amanda Seyfried, who plays Cosette, posed for photographs, answered interview questions, and signed autographs for fans.
The powerful, moving songs from the musical were played during the red carpet event, including I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home, One Day More and On My Own.
Anne Hathaway's soprano voice was tested during the movie musical because the actors were required to sing live.

When explaining his decision to make the actors sing live, Director Tom Hooper was quoted by the BBC as saying, "I thought that was the key to making this an emotional and intense experience, and to bring all those people into the fold who are not sure a musical is for them."
As E!online states, "Everyone knows Hugh Jackman can belt out the tunes, having showed off some serious song and dance skills hosting the Oscars and won a Tony Award for The Boy From Oz on Broadway." But what about Russell Crowe?
E!online concludes, "We'd say Crowe, who for years led a rock band called 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, acquits himself nicely with a strong baritone performance in the big screen version of the hit stage musical. The song in question is 'Work Song,' which finds the actor's policeman character releasing Jackman's Jean Valjean from captivity."

A personal favorite of mine, Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Madame Thénardier, is a native of London, England and was clearly popular with the fans lining the red carpet.
Bonham Carter "underwent extensive vocal lessons" when she prepared for her role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). Known for playing eccentric characters, Bonham Carter seems the perfect choice when thinking of the character Madame Thénardier.

According to the BBC, "The film is based on the long-running stage musical that has been seen by 60 million people worldwide." But, if you haven't seen the musical, based on Victor Hugo's novel, or one of the previous movies based on the book, the Les Misérables storyline goes like this: "In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever," states IMDB.
IMDB has a clock counting down to when "The Musical Phenomenon Begins" on December 25.
