China's first masturbation contest held for World AIDS Day

By Brett Wilkins     Dec 5, 2012 in Health
Shenzhen - China, like most nations, observed World AIDS Day on December 1. But unlike just about anywhere else on earth, the Chinese city of Shenzhen witnessed a highly unusual event at which men participated in a masturbation contest to promote safe sex.
Billed as "China's first jack-off competition," sex toy manufacturer sponsored the Shenzhen "wankathon." Shaghaiist reports that 10 men, wearing sunglasses and silly masks to hide their faces and holding numbered red plastic saucepans to cover-- and catch-- their unmentionables, stood side-by-side in close proximity while furiously masturbating to gyrating, scantily-clad, dildo-wielding models and a naked vinyl inflatable sex doll.
While this may all sound shockingly obscene and over-the-top, especially in a supposedly conservative communist country like China, the event's organizers said the crazy contest was meant to promote masturbation as the safest form of sex and a sure way to avoid HIV infection.
According to Vaccine News Daily, the number of new HIV/AIDS cases has grown by 13 percent in 2012. Some 492,000 Chinese are infected with the potentially deadly HIV virus, with more than 68,000 new cases reported this year. Nearly 85 percent of these infections resulted from sexual intercourse.
The organizers also said the very existence of such a contest demonstrates China's sexual freedom. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine such an event being permitted in even the most liberal of Western nations. There is an annual Masturbate-a-thon in San Francisco (where else?), at which male and female participants publicly pleasure themselves to raise money for charity and to raise awareness of the wonders of self-pleasure.
In May 2012, porn star Sonny Nash set a male world record by masturbating for 10 hours, 10 minutes.
