It's official, the next space tourist will be 'Phantom of the Opera' star, Sarah Brightman, set to zoom up to the ISS in 2015. She has lost her heart to the closest equivalent of a Starship Trooper!
While they took some time to make the decision, the news is now official and the Space Adventures Agency has confirmed that Brightman has signed an agreement with the Russian Space Agency. She has secured herself a seat on a space trip to the International Space Station in 2015.
Brightman's appreciation for intergalactic travel has been evident for some time, most noticeably with her popular 70’s track, “I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper” (video above).
Following in line after the previous space tourist to the ISS, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte who traveled into space in 2009, Brightman told the Russian Trud newspaper that she will have to learn some Russian. It would be difficult being out in space, and not speaking the lingo.
The singer was cleared to fly by the medical commission and began training at Russia’s Cosmonaut Training Center outside Moscow two months ago.
The Space Adventures agency has said in a statement, “All legal matters have been settled.” So it's a definite "go" and she will join professional cosmonauts on a Russian Soyuz mission to the international space station in three years time.
No details of the contract with Brightman have been disclosed by the Russian Space Agency.
In a quote from singer Brightman, who was once married to composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, “I wish some alien would kidnap me.”
