Former Senator Alan Simpson released an advertisement Tuesday in which he dances to the viral music from Psy’s “Gangnam Style.” Oh yeah — and he’s 81 years old.
His video, which promotes a campaign called “The Can Kicks Back,” advocates for Millennial-driven solutions to the national debt crisis.
“Stop Instagram-ing your breakfast and tweeting your first-world problems and getting on YouTube so you can see ‘Gangnam Style,’” says Simpson, looking straight into the camera.
Immediately the director cuts into a frame of Simpson riding an invisible horse for about four seconds before he returns to the screen as a regular human.
“Start using those precious social media skills to go out and sign people up on this baby,” he continues. “Take part, or get taken apart.”
The video ends with a blooper reel. Simpson talks himself through the steps — “the lasso again, and then the horse-back” — as an anthropomorphic soda can does the same next to him.
“I’ve got a bum knee,” Simpson concludes.
