Bulawayo - Ever thought of baboon urine being a very useful ingredient in the making of love potions? Yes, it’s Bulawayo’s best love portion so far?
Baboon urine is selling more than milk and sandwiches in Zimbabwe’s second largest city of Bulawayo with the sellers pocketing as much as $50 dollars per day.
According to one Bulawayo based traditional doctor known locally as “Sangoma” , the urine is being used to find lost love and curb husbands’ bed hopping habits making couples lovebirds. The concoction comes in three packages, namely Nama, Overtaker and Zwana Mina.
Here is how it works!!!!!
The herb and urine mixture is applied to the vagina by the woman after taking a bath in the evening before having sexual intercourse with her unsuspecting husband.
But the sangoma warns, “if one applies in excess the man might suspect and refuse to have sex because of its very strong stench.”
According to Gogo Maphosa, Nama is a tree root ground to powder which is used to bind lovers together forever with ‘Overtaker’ being a lovers' concoction used by a woman to have competitive advantage over her rivals on a man. Zwana mina is a charm that is used imaginarily blindfolds a husband so that he won’t see the beauty in any other woman than his wife.
In all the three packages the primate’s pee is the key ingredient as it is believed that once the man has it they will adopt some certain characteristics of a baboon chief among them “the discipline of urinating only in one place without forgetting the spot.”
Following this line of reasoning, a potion containing baboon urine is meant to make married men stick to their wives and never think about other women.
But how do these old women from Makokoba and Pumula collect this urine?
Some game rangers from the magnificent Victoria Falls does a good job for the women in Bulawayo by collecting the urine for them from the bush at a cost between US$10-$15 per liter which the sangomas charge an average of US$15 per portion with an extra $5 for follow up appointments within a month.
