The
Saudi Gazette reported the unnamed Saudi diplomat "was a senior official at the military attache at the Saudi embassy in Yemen." They added that the diplomat's Yemeni driver was also killed in the attack. According to
Al Jazeera the man murdered alongside the diplomat was his bodyguard.
The two men died as the diplomat's car overturned when shot at by unknown gunmen. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the murders. Al-Qaeda in the the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) have claimed responsibility for several attacks recently.
Abdullah al-Khalidi, Saudi's deputy consul, was abducted from his residence in in the Yemeni city of Aden in March and is still being held.
Arab News reported al-Kahlida was kidnapped by al-Qaeda members who demanded millions in ransom and the release of al-Qaeda linked women imprisoned in Saudi Arabia. Negotiations for his release broke down in August.
