New York - A three-time accused rapist wants to sue New York City for three-million dollars due to spending a couple of extra months in jail.
According to New York Post, Brian Brickington is a three-time accused rapist. At one time, Brockington faced up to 75 years in jail, but now he wants New York City to handover $3 million because he spent a couple of extra months in jail as the cases he was facing fell apart.
Brockington took the first step towards a lawsuit, filing a notice of claim against the city as well as the Department of Correction. Brockington wants to file a wrongful-imprisonment lawsuit.
According to Village Voice, Brockington was arrested back in 2007, but it was on a charge that was not related to the three alleged rapes to which he was linked.
A DNA swab was taken from Brockington when he was arrested in 2007, and that linked him to three rapes that occurred in 1993, 1997 and 2003.
However, the 1993 and 1997 cases against Brockington were dropped due to the Bronx District Attorney's Office proclivity for bungling felony cases. Brockington was offered a plea deal for the 2003 case, which required him to plead guilty to a charge of attempted assault, then he would have only received 1 1/2-4 years in jail.
Brockington was released in May, after serving about five years on Rikers Island. While serving time, Brockington called prosecutors' probe a joke.
Brockington has protested his innocence and said that he doesn't need to rape anybody.
