Move over Justin Bieber, there's a new YouTube sensation in town as Psy's Gangnam Style becomes the most watched YouTube video of all time.
Justin Bieber's "Baby", which has more than 805 million views as of this publication, has been surpassed by Psy's "Gangnam Style" video, which now has in excess of 826 million views.
According to a New York Newsday report, "Gangnam Style" had 805 million views on Saturday, while "Baby" had 803 million views. Some are speculating that fans of both artists have been visiting the YouTube videos over the past two days in an effort keep their beloved singer in the lead. With a 21 million view lead, it appears as if Psy is safely in the YouTube record books however.
The speed in which "Gangnam Style" has sky-rocked atop the YouTube charts is also remarkable. "Baby" was uploaded to YouTube on February 19, 2010. "Gangnam Style" was released on YouTube July 15, 2012. In a mere four months, Psy's video surpassed the 800 million view mark, compared to the thirty-three months it took for Bieber to reach the milestone.
Since the video was released in July, Psy has performed his hit on Saturday Night Live,The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He was also chosen to be the final performer on the American Music Awards where he performed with MC Hammer.
The "Gangnam Style" song, which makes fun of Gangnam's consumerism, has sold more than 4 million copies around the word according to the Telegraph. The video also received the honor of becoming the most "liked" YouTube video ever in September.
