Springfield - Springfield police in Massachusetts say that a man, who went bargain hunting for a 51" flat screen television at K-Mart, left behind his toddler in the backseat of the vehicle. Police broke into the car and took the boy to the hospital.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the man, Anthony Perry, 34, left his girlfriend’s two-year-old son in a car. When he had his television, he proceeded to go home and reportedly forgot the child. When the police contacted him, he was at their Goodwin residence with the new television.
WGGB reported that Perry told police he went into K-Mart on Liberty Street and when he went back outside the child was missing. He later told police that he had panicked in the situation and called someone to bring the two-year-old child home.
Police officers were alerted by security and located the child, who was sleeping in the backseat, in the parking lot at 1:30 a.m. Friday. Local law enforcement was prompted to break into the vehicle and took the child to Baystate Medical Center with his mother, who was working at the time.
Perry has not been arrested nor charged at this time, but Lt. Robert Moynihan of the Springfield Police Department said they will be seeking to press charges for reckless endangerment to a child.
It is still unclear as to how he got home if the child was left in the vehicle.
This is a relatively new story so please check back throughout the day for further updates.
