Sky City will house 17,400 people and it will also have schools, hospitals, hotels and office space. Occupants will be able to use 104 high-speed lifts.

, builders will use around 200,000 tons of steel to build Sky City. Once completed, Sky City will be a few feet taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, currently the world's tallest skyscraper.

, the company building Sky City is Broad Sustainable Building (BSB), which is a unit of Broad Group, an air conditioning maker.
Critics of the project point out that the company has never built anything taller than 30 storeys before, but the company does not seem concerned.
Juliet Jiang, BSB senior vice-president, said that the company plans on completing five storeys a day.
Local authorities are expected to approve the project soon and, once approved, foundation works will begin at the end of the month. The project is expected to cost over $400 million.
