Today the Middle East conflict continues as Hamas leader dares Israel to invade amid Gaza airstrikes. Israeli President Peres accused Iran of continuing the violence. And the U.S. sends warships to evacuate Americans in Israel.
Hamas top leader dared Israel to launch a ground invasion into Gaza and he dismissed diplomatic efforts to broker a cease-fire deal while the Israeli Air Force conducted deadly new airstrikes on the besieged Palestinian region. Hamas responded with a volley of rockets fired from Gaza into southern Israel where one rocket hit a vacant school, according to the New York Times.
Israeli President Shimon Peres accused Iran of encouraging the Palestinians to continue rocket attacks on Israel rather than negotiating a ceasefire.” Meanwhile, Peres praised Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi for his constructive role during this current Arab-Israeli conflict, according to Israel National News.
Three U.S. Navy amphibious warships returned to the eastern Mediterranean to standby in preparation for possible evacuation operations of Americans leaving Israel. “The officials stressed that an evacuation remains an extremely remote possibility and the Obama administration is not currently planning for one, according to Israel National News.
