The Philippine national football team, popularly known as "Azkals" have just hurdled a morale-boosting win over the highly-rated Singapore Lions in Cebu City Thursday night.
The Azkals are set to face the national team of Thailand on November 24 in Bangkok for the Suzuki Cup championship game.
The win over Singapore Lions last Thursday will serve as psychological booster for the Philippine national team in its quest for the prestigious Suzuki Cup title.
Azkals' win over the Singapore Lions in Cebu City was their second in a series of friendly games leading up to the AFF Suzuki Cup competition which starts on November 24.
Overall score for the friendly series was 2-0 in favor of the Azkals.
The AFF Suzuki Cup starts off in Bangkok with Vietnam taking on Myanmar at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
On the same day, the Azkals will face the Thailand national team also at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok for its first game in the series.
On November 25, the competition will move to Malaysia, with Indonesia facing Laos and then Malaysia colliding with Singapore later in the evening.
The AFF Suzuki Cup was organized by Asian Football Federation (AFF) with national teams of Southeast Asia as competing members. It is accredited by the The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), a world football association based in Zurich and founded under Swiss law in 1904.
The Azkals are playing under Group A of the upcoming Suzuki Cup competition which is composed of Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar.
Singapore Lions are playing in Group B along with Malaysia, Indonesia and Laos.
