article imageOp-Ed: Israeli Defense Forces strikes Hamas as conflict intensify

By Eliot Elwar     Nov 15, 2012 in World
The Middle East crisis intensifies as Hamas military chief, Ahmed Jabari, dies during an Israeli IDF pinpoint strike on his vehicle. The IDF launches widespread attacks on Gaza terror targets as Israel prepares nuclear strike mission on Iran.
From IDFNADESK: The IDF targeted Ahmed Jabri, the head of Hamas' military wing, in the Gaza Strip on 14 November 2012. "Jabri was a senior Hamas operative who served in the upper echelon of the Hamas' command and was directly responsible for executing terror attacks against Israel in the past."
From the Telegraph: “Hamas has said that Israeli air strike in Gaza which killed Ahmed Jabari, the head of its military wing, "has opened the gates of hell".Jabari, who is the most senior Hamas official to be killed since an Israeli invasion of Gaza four years ago, was killed in an air strike on a vehicle, in a dramatic resumption of Israel's policy of assassinating Palestinian militant leaders.” Israelis are now taking the fight to the Palestinians. Israelis will eventually invade Gaza to destroy Hamas and the rocket sites. This could ignite the Mideast war.
From IDF Blog: "In response to the incessant rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip – more than 700 have struck Israel since the beginning of the year, and more than 120 since Saturday – the IDF has launched a widespread campaign against terror targets in Gaza. The operation, called Pillar of Defense, has two main goals: to protect Israeli civilians and to cripple the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza."
From Jerusalem Post: IDF analysts have concluded that a conventional strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities will be unsuccessful, and they have been forced to change their warplans. The IDF’s plans have been constantly evolving in recent years because of Iran’s developments in protecting its facilities from an expected IDF strike. Analysts believe that the longer the IDF delays attacking Iran, the more likely it will have to employ nuclear weapons. Israel’s only real option is the employment of nuclear weapons against Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. Israel will attack alone when the time comes because Obama’s reelection means Israel gets no American support.
Analysis
The IDF killed the Hamas’ military wing leader while striking other sites in Gaza because Hamas has been firing rockets non-stop into Israel. Israelis warned Hamas before the IDF took action. The attacks by Hamas were not isolated. Assad threatened global conflict before his tanks crossed into the demilitarized zone with Israel. A few days later, his mortars fired into Israel triggering an IDF artillery response. Israel warned Assad against attacking Israel. During this artillery exchange, Hamas continued its rocket attacks. A few Analysts believe Iran coordinated these attacks on Israel because Iran is testing the IDF to assess the Israeli and Western response to these attacks. Iran wants to start a war with Israel to save Assad’s Syrian regime. Iran is attempting to coordinate Hamas and Syria against Israel. Iran’s actions could trigger an all-out war between Israel and the Middle East Islamic community.
